Reference Books Online Gale Virtual Reference Library collection of reference books contains encyclopedias, almanacs, and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research.

 

ReferenceUSAReference USA contains information on 14 million U.S. businesses. Information available includes company name, industry, geographic location, business size, executives, number of employees, and sales volume.  

 

Regional Business News:  Provides comprehensive full text for regional business publications (including titles from Crain Communications).

 

Research Project Calculator: a simple and comprehensive five-step model for navigating the research process when you need to get a paper done.

 

Salem Press Health:  Covers diseases, disorders, treatments, procedures, specialties, anatomy, biology, and issues.  The database also includes the Salem Heath: Cancer resources. 

 

Salem Press HistoryContains Milestone Documents in American History, The Nineties in America, The Eighties in America, The Seventies in America, The Sixties in America, and The Fifties in America.

 

Science Reference Center:  An easy to use search with a multitude of full text science-oriented content designed to meet every student's science research needs.

 

Searchasaurus:  A search for elementary and middle school kids that contains a collection of magazines, reference books (including a dictionary and an encyclopedia), biographies, photos at an age-appropriate reading level.

 

Small Engine Repair Reference Center: Small engine repair assistance, including: ATVs, commercial mowers, farm tractors, generators, motorcycles, marine (boats), outdoor power equipment, personal watercraft/jet ski, snow blowers, snowmobiles, tillers and other small engines.  Over 400 books with photos and illustrations, searchable by type of product, specific brand, specific model/engine type, and specific area of that model/engine type.

Student Research Center:  A search interface designed specifically for secondary school students that includes magazines, newspapers, biographies, country reports, film and video plus the Science Reference Center.

Student Resources in Context: Designed for use by high school students for both homework and in-depth research assignments. Contains reference works, biographies, essays, overviews, primary works, images, and periodical articles.

Toxnet: Toxicology Data Network from the National Library of Medicine, featuring databases on toxicology, hazardous chemicals, environmental health, and toxic releases

Transparent Languages Online (formerly Byki).  Transparent Languages Online helps you learn over 80 languages and includes many versions of ESL (English as a Second Language) tailored to specific learners, including those who speak Spanish, Russian, and Chinese. Create an account (this can be done at home) to get started.

 Value Line Investment Survey:  The Value Line Investment Survey is a comprehensive source of information and advice on approximately 1,700 stocks in 98 industries, the stock market, and the economy.

Westlaw (computer assisted legal research) is available on the Law Library computers.

World Almanac/Book of Facts:  Contains thousands of authoritative facts and statistics that aren’t publicly available (including entertainment, reference and learning) which are sourced and double-checked by the staff of World Almanac experts. 

WorldCatAn online catalog of books and other materials held in libraries worldwide. Updated daily.

They are available to anyone visiting these Scott County branch libraries, and they are available from locations outside the library (home, school, work, etc.) with a valid Scott County Library Card.
