AllData OnlineAllData Online is only available for use in the library. The world's most comprehensive resource for diagnostic and repair information for cars and light trucks starting with the 1982 model year.

Ancestry Library Edition: The complete version of Ancestry Library Edition is only available for use in the library. This comprehensive source of information for conducting genealogical and local history research includes the digitized images of the U.S. Federal Census from 1790 to 1920, the American Genealogical Biographical Index, Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, and much more.

ArchiveGrid:You may be prompted to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.  Historical records, personal papers, and family histories held in archives around the world.

Article First: You may be prompted to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.  Describes items listed on the table of contents pages of
individual issues of over 12,000 journals.  

Biography Resource Center: A comprehensive database of biographical information on more than 185,000 people from throughout history, around the world, and across all disciplines and subject areas.

Britannica Academic Edition: You may be prompted  to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.   Aimed at College/University students, the database contains the Encyclopædia Britannica plus Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and Thesaurus, magazines and periodicals, and many other research tools.

Britannica Public Library Edition: You may be prompted  to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.  You are able to search Encyclopædia Britannica and Merriam-Webster Dictionary and Thesaurus in this database, which also contains a Spanish-English dictionary, a notable quotations search and more.

Britannica School Edition: You may be prompted  to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.  Aimed and K-12th grade and their teachers (the database contains teacher resources).  Contains four complete encyclopedias that ensure consistency with classroom topics and age-appropriate language.

Business and Company Resource CenterBrings together company profiles, brand information, rankings, investment reports, company histories, chronologies and periodicals.

Business Source Premier: You may be prompted to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list  Provides comprehensive full text for regional business publications (including titles from Crain Communications). 

Byki: Byki (short for 'Before You Know It') language learning system uses flashcards to teach a set of words or phrases to  learn foreign languages.   It currently has around 80 languages- more are being added.  It also includes ESL (English as a Second Language) for those who speak Spanish, Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, Japanese, and Mandarin Chinese.  Create an account (this can be done at home) to get started.

CAMIO: You may be prompted to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.  The catalog of Art Museum Images Online is a growing online collection documenting works of art from around the world, representing the collections of prominent museums.

Consumer Reports Online: You may be prompted to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.  Direct access to the content of Consumer Reports magazine by year and month.  The PDF files have the complete content, including ratings.

Combines thousands of biographies, topical overviews, critical analyses, plot summaries, events, and media elements into a single, easy-to-use database that supports classroom learning.

EBSCO Mega-file: You may be prompted  to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.  Save time and search  four databases at once: Academic Search Premier, MasterFILE Premier, Business Source Premier, and Regional Business News.

Educator's Reference Complete: You may be prompted  to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.  More than 1,100 periodicals and 200 reports for educators, from the school teacher and administrator to those studying in the field at the collegiate and graduate level. 

ERIC (EBSCO) or ERIC (OCLC): You may be prompted to enter your library card number when you select either database interface.  ERIC (Education Resource Information Center) provides access to information from journals included in the Current Index of Journals in Education and Resources in Education Index. 

Expanded Academic ASAP: You may be prompted  to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list. For University/College students, faculty and graduate researchers, this database offers balanced coverage of every academic concentration — from advertising and microbiology to history and women's studies.

General Science Collection You may be prompted  to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list. Provides information on all aspects of the scientific world and offers full text coverage for more than 60 of the most popular science publications.   

GPO Monthly Catalog: You may be prompted  to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list. Covers all types of U.S. government documents, including Congressional reports, hearings, debates, and records; judiciary materials; and documents issued by executive departments.

Great Athletes (from Salem Press/History) When you select this database, enter the name of the athlete you are looking for and click 'search now.'   This database contains shorter (around 3-4 pages) but thorough biographies of over 1400 athletes from all over the globe in a variety of sports (and not just the familiar ones).  Biographies discuss the early life, the road to their sport, their participation in the sport, and what happened later in life, plus a summary. 

Grzimek's Animal Life: Includes information on more than 4,000 species, covering topics such as evolution, habitat, behavior, taxonomy, conservation status and more.

Health Source: Consumer Edition: You may be prompted  to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list. Provides access to nearly 80 full text, consumer health magazines, searchable full text for current, health-related pamphlets and more than 130 health reference books, including books published by the People's Medical Society. 

Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition: You may be prompted  to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list. Provides nearly 550 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines. Coverage of nursing and allied health is particularly strong.  

Historical Minneapolis Tribune: You may be prompted  to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list. A searchable version of the Minneapolis Morning Tribune from the years 1867-1922, with full page images, headlines and full citations (and possibly an abstract). 
Subscription purchased with funds provided to Minnesota State Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services Technology Act (LSTA) through the Institute of Museums and Library Services.

Historical New York TimesTo get to this database, select the database "News- The Historical New York Times" from the list when the web page opens.
The New York Times complete back issues from their first issue in 1851 through 2005.  The database includes full-text and full-image articles.

Homework Rescue Online TutoringK-12 students and adult learners can get free help with homework and related skills online! It's available (in English or Español) from 1-11 pm seven days a week, except some holiday-related closures (for a list of holiday closings for Homework Help, click here). You can use it in the library or sign on from home (with your Scott County Library card). The one-on-one live online tutoring includes- math, science, writing (you can submit your papers or resumes and receive expert assistance), practice tests, live test tutoring and more. A demonstration of the product is available (it's on the Hennepin County Library System web site).

Issues and Controversies: Delivers carefully researched essays written to give students a thorough review of all sides of a topical issue or controversy in today's news.

Designed for students in junior high and middle school, with magazines, newspapers and reference books (most are full-text) for information on current events, the arts, science, popular culture, health, people, government, history, sports and more.

Junior Reference Collection:  You may be prompted to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.  Includes documents, photographs and illustrations, video and audio clips, and  Merriam-Webster's dictionaries (Collegiate, Biographical, and Geographical).

Kids InfoBits: You may be prompted  to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.  Meets the research needs of students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 and it includes information on current events, the arts, science, health, people, government, history, sports and more.

 

Kids Search: You may be prompted  to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.  A search interface designed specifically for elementary/middle school students to make it easy to find the most useful information for school and more by topic or keywords.  Features the Science Reference Center.

LearningExpress Library: (Formerly Learn A Test) Test Preparation that works. The Learn a Test database from Learning Express Library includes practice test in many areas including ASVAB, the ACT, the GRE, Postal Worker, U.S. Citizenship, Praxis/PPST, Civil Service careers, basic skills, and many more. All new users of this database must have their own email address to be able to register. 

LegalForms:  A library of legal forms for every stage of life. After downloading, forms can be printed as is or filled in electronically.  There are thousands of legal forms available with more forms being added daily. Types of forms include: Official, State Specific, Federal, Business, Personal, Real Estate and General forms covering hundreds of legal subjects and issues.  (Please note these forms are not accepted in Minnesota District Courts.)  

Literature Resource CenterDesigned to meet the research needs of undergraduate and high school students, the Literature Resource Center provides access to biographies, bibliographies and critical analysis of authors from every age and literary discipline.

 

Mango Languages : This premier online program  is a unique way to learn another language. The web site interface will let you create a user profile to track your progress in the courses.  Mango Languages currently offers complete courses for Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Greek, Russian, Mandarin Chinese and specific complete ESL courses for speakers of Polish, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese speakers.  Basic courses are offered for Arabic (Leventine), Farsi, Pashto, Urdu, Turkish, Hebrew, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Tagalog, Hindi, Irish and specific basic ESL courses for speakers of French, Italian, German, Russian, Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese Chinese, Japanese, Greek, Arabic, Korean, and Vietnamese.

 

MAS Ultra—School Edition: You may be prompted  to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.  Specifically for high school students, contains full text for popular, high school magazines, biographies, primary source documents, photos, maps and flags, and reference books. 

MasterFILE Premier: You may be prompted to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list  Contains full text for 2,053 magazines covering general reference, business, health, education, general science, multicultural issues and much more.

MEDLINE:You may be prompted to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list   Information to help answer health questions from the National Library of Medicine, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other government agencies and health-related organizations.

Minnesota Digital Library- Reflections: The first online project of the Minnesota Digital Library Coalition- a collection of more than 31,000 images and documents depicting the history of Minnesota.

Minnesota Grantmakers The Minnesota Grantmaker's database is only available for use in the library.   Please see the information desk for the password. From the Minnesota Council on Foundations, "the web's largest, most up-to-date database of Minnesota grantmakers and grants." 

& Minnesota Newspapers: State and Local:  Full text searchable papers, from local sources including the Jordan Independent, Prior Lake American, Savage Pacer and Shakopee Valley News, the Pioneer Press, and the Image Edition of the Star Tribune.  (Image Edition back issues run from 1/1/2006-11/14/2008. Please note that not all images appear, and syndicated articles will not appear full-text, please contact your library for assistance if you are searching for a syndicated article.)

 New York Times Image Edition: Today's edition of "all the news that's fit to print," today's issue viewed as the printed edition, pictures included.  (Please note you should have high speed Internet to view.)  For back issues of the Image Edition, click here and select 'Search, Preferences, Back Issues.'

Newsstand Complete: You may be prompted  to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.  Citations and abstracts from over 350 newspapers, including the Star Tribune, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, Barron's, and USA Today.

NoveList K-8: You may be prompted to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.   Helps kids locate age-appropriate books.  There's fiction and nonfiction titles chosen specifically to support the school curriculum as well as the pleasure reading needs of students.

NoveList Plus: You may be prompted to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.   Novelist is a database where you can search for your next great read by reading level (from kids on up), subject, title or author.  There's also lists of read-alikes and award winners.  You can even search by plot keywords.  Of special interest to book clubs there is also a list of discussion guides.

OAIster (or OAIster Searchable Interface): You may be prompted to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.   OAIster is a union catalog of digital resources. Access to these digital resources is provided by "harvesting" their descriptive metadata (records) using OAI-PMH (the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting.

Oxford Art Online:  The user name for the database is: scottcounty and password for the database is: scottcounty.  (Formerly Grove Art Online) Covers every aspect of the visual arts from prehistory to the present day, with over 45,000 articles on fine arts, decorative arts, and architecture.  Explore over 21,000 biographies - everything from artists, architects, photographers and designers to patrons, dealers, theorists and writers. 

Points of View Reference Center: Provides students with a series of essays that present multiple sides of over 250 current issues.

 

Professional Collection: You may be prompted to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.  Designed for the educator, this database has full text for education journals across a variety of fields such as child and adolescent psychology, drug and alcohol abuse, learning disabilities, sports/athletic training etc. Updated daily.

Reference Books OnlineA database of encyclopedias, almanacs, and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research.

 

ReferenceUSA: Reference USA contains information on 11 million U.S. businesses. Information available includes company name, industry, geographic location, business size, executives, number of employees, and sales volume.  

 

Regional Business News: You may be prompted to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list  Provides comprehensive full text for regional business publications (including titles from Crain Communications).

 

Salem Press Health: Covers diseases, disorders, treatments, procedures, specialties, anatomy, biology, and issues.  The database also includes the Salem Heath: Cancer resources.  To use the database, scroll to the bottom of the first screen, click on the 'Remote Access' button and enter your Scott County Library card barcode.

 

Salem Press HistoryContains Milestone Documents in American History, The Eighties in America, The Seventies in America, The Sixties in America, and The Fifties in America. Science Reference Center: You may be prompted to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.  A multitude of full text science-oriented content designed to meet every student's science research needs.

 

Science Resource Center:  Topic overviews, experiments, biographies, pictures, illustrations and the latest scientific developments in articles from over 200 magazines and academic journals. Covers curriculum-related science topics and offers teachers an easy-to-use tool to identify content directly correlated to state and national standards.

Small Engine Repair Reference Center: Small engine repair assistance, including: ATVs, commercial mowers, farm tractors, generators, motorcycles, marine (boats), outdoor power equipment, PWC (personal watercraft/jet ski), snow blowers, snowmobiles, tillers and other small engines.  Over 400 books with photos and illustrations, searchable by type of product, specific brand, specific model/engine type, and specific area of that model/engine type.

Student Research Center: You may be prompted  to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.  A search interface designed specifically for secondary school students that includes magazines, newspapers, biographies, country reports, film and video plus the Science Reference Center.

 Value Line Investment Survey: Value Line is currently only available for use in the library.  The Value Line Investment Survey is a comprehensive source of information and advice on approximately 1,700 stocks in 98 industries, the stock market, and the economy.

World Almanac/Book of Facts: You may be prompted  to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.  Contains thousands of authoritative facts and statistics that aren’t publicly available (including entertainment, reference and learning) which are sourced and double-checked by the staff of World Almanac experts. 

WorldCat: You may be prompted  to enter your library card number when you select this database from the list.  An online catalog of books and other materials held in libraries worldwide. Updated daily.
